More information about Artist Vick Richardso

Vicki says she has been involved with art all of her life.  When we spoke she commented,  "I have attempted to paint since elementary school; however I always felt that my intent was more sculptural.

She continued, "I do just as much drawing and designing as painting and I approach painting more through the eyes of a sculptor by adding and subtracting elements to create tension, drama, excitement or tranquility.  It is the emotional aspect of totally losing yourself and becomming a part of what you are creating that is most rewarding.

I paint what I feel and how I interpret the world around me.  I resist being categorizes or put in a box.  I can express myself as effectively doing abstract pieces as well as doing political comment or representational work.  I love experimentation and being challenged by new techniques and themes and learning something different and valuable from every artist I encounter.  I just need several more lifetimes to explore everything and grow the way I would like to personally, and in my art.

Vicki has taught art on the high school level for 28 years.  She has been the chair of the Art Department at bot Rancho and Cheyenne High Schools in Las Vegas.  She has also written the drawing, painting and srt curriculum requirements for high school students as well as taught Advanced Placement Art which is on a college level.  She has also been the owner/director of Left of Center Gallery for over 20 years.  She works closely with the Nevada Arts Council and has been a member of the Las Vegas Arts Commission for 8 years.  She has also received the Governors Art Award and Awards in Education.
